Professional Development is an ongoing effort at both high schools. My schedule has me in PD sessions on Monday and Tuesday at one school and on Wednesday and Thursday at the other school. Friday is "catch-up day" if I have been at meetings and missed a session. Often it is spent planning the PD for the nest week.

PBL
A flipped PD was utilize for this topic. Teachers were given two videos to view prior to coming to the session with me. On a Google form they were asked questions about what the classroom looked like (Cooperative groups, tables, not rows of desk, etc) On the day they came to my room we divided up and read “Essentials to Project Based Learning” http://www.bie.org/tools/freebies/8_essentials_for_project-based_learning We discussed the difference between projects and project-based learning experiences.

Completed the f2f sessions on PBL. On 2.15, the ½ day PD district wide content teachers met together, separating out into specific class groups - All Civics, all Biology, etc began to plan out a PBL lesson to complete Spring 2013 semester.

Reviewed PBL plans with individual teachers during their planning periods.
Plans were worked on collaboratively using Google Docs attached to the content wiki. As teachers continue to develop the plan they will update this document.

Introduced STNA (School Technology Needs Assessment) Survey (sent from Collaborating to Build Action Plans for Learning Technologies - COBALT, through Friday Institute and Epic-Ed) Lots of discussion as teachers completed the survey. Teachers also did a LoTi Survey (Levels of Technology Implementation Questionnaire). Students were given surveys that were much like the LoTi survey. Teachers had students complete those during class.

Digital textbooks are in all content discussions now. What if you made your own? Using a presentation at NCTIES as the jumping off point https://sites.google.com/a/ucps.k12.nc.us/student-created-digital-textbooks/home w will begin to outline what a content specific textbook would look like. Evernote notebooks will also be covered. Plans for US History are already in the making.... for an example.

Teacher Blogs: Using Simple K-12 as the presenter, we will discuss the many uses of a teacher blog or student blogs. The assignment will be to find a blog that interests you, follow for a month and then write about in on a shared Google Doc.

“Envisioning Schools in 2020” - the topic from MOOC Ed through Friday Institute and Education Alliance.Group discussion of what the future holds and how we will move in that direction. Also, a plus/delta of how they think this semester is going. Then compare last
